Keep those bones from cracking with more vitamin D

Staying healthy into your golden years doesn't have to be difficult. If you take good care of your body by exercising, eating right and taking an herbal anti-aging supplement such as a multivitamin from Herbal Groups, then you're on your way to a healthy old age. However, if you're like most people, then as you age you've become more concerned about your bone health. According to a recent study, one of the secrets to healthy bones when you're older is getting more vitamin D.

Researchers from Tufts University analyzed 11 clinical trials that examined the benefits of vitamin D supplements. They found higher doses of vitamin D may be the most beneficial in reducing bone fractures in people over the age of 65.

"Taking between 800 [international units] and 2,000 IUs of vitamin D per day significantly reduced the risk of most fractures, including hip, wrist and forearm in both men and women age 65 and older," said Bess Dawson-Hughes, M.D., the study's senior author."Importantly, we saw there was no benefit to taking vitamin D supplements in doses below 800 IUs per day for fracture prevention."

So the next time you take a joint supplement from Herbal Groups, consider washing it down with a glass of vitamin D-fortified milk.
