Can you eat less to live more?

 

Are you doing everything you can to live to a ripe old age? If so, then you probably exercise, eat right and take an herbal anti-aging supplement like a multivitamin from Herbal Groups. Another thing many people have tried to help them live longer is dietary restriction (DR), since some individuals believe that eating a restricted-calorie diet can help extend their lifespan. According to a recent study, people who practice DR need to be sure to workout as well if they want to reap the benefits of their eating plan.

Scientists from the Buck Institute examined fruit flies on a restrictive diet, and found that those that did not eat enough calories to allow for exercise lived for a shorter amount of time than those that consumed more calories.

"Our work argues that simply restricting nutrients without physical activity may not be beneficial in humans," said scientist Pankaj Kapahi, Ph.D., who runs the lab where the research took place.

In 2009 CNN reported on a study in the journal Science which found that monkeys who restricted their calorie intake by 30 percent lived longer than those who ate a traditional amount. Furthermore, calorie-restricted monkeys preserved volume in areas of their brain that have been linked to motor control, memory and problem-solving.
