Don’t let a crying baby keep you from getting sleep at night

 

If you have trouble sleeping, you know that there are many things that can disrupt your rest. Of course any new parent can tell you that a crying baby can wreak havoc on your sleep patterns. Recently, The Chicago Tribune published an article discussing some ways to help babies sleep through the night.

The news source spoke to pediatrician Kenneth Fox who said that by 4 to 6 months old, babies should be put to bed at the same time every night with no toys or distractions in their crib.

"The influence of environment is important for all kids, and there are things parents can do to strengthen or improve sleep hygiene for their kids," said Fox, quoted by the news source. "It's never hopeless."

The Mayo Clinic states that if you haven't gotten a good night's rest since the day your baby was born, there are things you can do. First, engage the baby during the day by singing, talking and playing, which may tire him or her out. Next, put the baby to bed when they're drowsy, but not asleep, which will help your little one associate the bed with the process of falling asleep. Finally, consider getting a pacifier if nothing else works, this may help calm the baby and studies have suggested could also help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
