Tomatoes may play a crucial role in prostate health

According to the Huffington Post, tomatoes are a major staple in many North American diets and cuisines, as they are an excellent source of potassium and vitamins. The vegetable also helps to regulate leptin, the hormone associated with metabolism and weight loss.

Additionally, tomatoes contain beta-carotene, an important antioxidant that can naturally help protect against sun damage.

In fact, some studies have even shown that people who have diets rich in tomatoes appear to have a lower risk of certain types of cancer, especially that of the lungs, heart and prostate. Tomatoes, whether raw, cooked or processed, contain a crucial antioxidant known as lycopene, which has long been known for its positive effects on prostate health, according to the American Cancer Society.

However, not all research has reached the same conclusion about the antioxidant, and by no means is lycopene a treatment for any type of prostate disease or cancer. The beneficial and preventative effects of lycopene may contribute to a combination of daily exercise, natural herbal prostate supplements and a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
