Does your diet reduce your risk of colon cancer?


Individuals who are concerned about the health of their colon should eat right, exercise and take an herbal colon cleansing supplement. Maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of sickness prevention, since The National Cancer Institute states that obesity has been associated with the development of a number of forms of cancer including colon, rectum and kidney. 

Recently, The Huffington Post published an article written by Nalini Chilkov, M.D., who explained what foods people should eat and what they should avoid if they are concerned about developing colon cancer.

First, the doctor recommended eating less red meat, since studies have found that consuming red meat daily, especially more than one serving, increases a person's risk of colon cancer.

Next, the physician suggested consuming more olive oil, especially in place of butter.

"Olive oil contains plant chemicals that have anti-cancer properties. Olive oil reduces bile acid and increases enzymes that regulate cell turnover in the lining of the intestines, promoting healthy tissue. Plant compounds called phenols present in olive oil also exert a cancer-protective antioxidant effect," wrote Chilkov for the Post.

Finally, the expert said to eat more omega-3 fatty acids, which can be found in fish, such as salmon, sardines, mackerel and cod. This substance can also be found in many supplements, and has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body, which leads to disease.
