Diet and Weight Loss

Give up the morning snack to get slimmer

When trying to lose weight, many individuals learn that the little snacks they mindlessly grab throughout the day have more than a slight effect on their waistline. This population may want to consider taking an herbal diet supplement to help them in their quest to shed pounds.

Overweight people should also consider taking a moment to think before they snack. That was the finding of a recent study conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, which discovered that mid-morning snacking may be holding women back from losing weight.

Researchers found that women who ate between breakfast and lunch had a more difficult time controlling their size than those who waited until meals to eat. The scientists say that this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with this particular time of day, but rather that there's such a short amount of time between these two meals that eating during that period could be a sign of mindless snacking.

The researchers added that this doesn't mean that people who are trying to lose weight should give up all snacks. However, they need to be smarter about them.

"Our study suggests that snacking may actually help with weight loss if not done too close to another meal, particularly if the snacks are healthy foods that can help you feel full without adding too many calories," said researcher Anne McTiernan, M.D., Ph.D.
